    MONITORING SYSTEM
    What issues is the failover system looking for and at what point does it switch over the Live site?
    i2 monitoring systems look for possible issues at both the web server level and at the database level. For an arrangement like this, our systems will check the state of these vitals every 10 seconds. If an issue arises traffic is rerouted to the alternate server.
    Note, also, that we can ensure that administration facilities are disabled while traffic is routed to an alternate server.

    REPLICATION
    Replication: what is the frequency recommended for each item we would be replicating?
    would this have any affect on the live site’s transaction process?
    With the approach we take to replication, there is little to no impact at the primary server’s transaction processes. We accomplish this by replicating database changes as they take place, and by propagating only those files that change when they are changed (every 5 to 60 seconds). There are no CPU intensive file system or database scans as a part of these processes, the processes are quite efficient.

    AT DEDICATED HARDWARE
    If the alternate server is set up at new or existing hardware dedicated to our organization, how will the alternate server be set up and how will it affect use of dedicated host server resources?

    1) other containers at your host server would continue to run as a separate server. The new server would be set up on a different instance. Host hardware resources, however, would of course be shared (CPU, disk storage).

    2) There would be no storage capacity limits beyond what’s available at the host server hardware, which currently has just the one other server instance on it.

    3) In the event that traffic is routed to the alternate server, CPU utilization at the host server hardware would increase, but at present it appears that resources will be underutilized.
